Justine

Access to health care is a critical issue to many impoverished children in Uganda. An impactful success story comes from Justine who benefited greatly from our medical fund.

One day at the age of seven, Justine was having a ride with her Father on a bicycle. Justine’s father had a problem of being an alcoholic. He had put Justine behind on the bicycle seat. He lost balance and fell off. Justice being a little child she suffered from a dislocation in her knee which was mismanaged. Time passed and the knee joint started piercing in the skin Leaving a wound.

This wound started producing pass , house flies could fall on it time to time and it became sepsis. Justine had to be chasing houseflies all day which brought discomfort to her . When Justine was brought to us for help , her physical appearance could tell how painful she felt. Our hearts broke when seeing her for the first time. At first we thought it was just a wound which needed simple management, little did we know that Justine’s bone was severely damaged and her wound had become sepsis .

Justine’s healing journey started when we took her to the hospital. She was diagnosed with osteoporosis . This is a health condition that weakens bones, making them fragile and more likely to break. It develops slowly over  several years and is often only diagnosed when a fall or sudden impact causes a bone to break ( fracture).

Justine under went multiple surgeries in order to save her leg from being cut off. This treatment almost took two years down the road. Justine passed through a lot of pain and agony. Up to now I can hear the voices of her screaming in pain when she was being treated. We bless the Lord for Justine’s life and for her sponsor Kate who has always supported Justine in thick and thin, her unconditional love and support for her and her siblings cannot ever go unappreciated .

As we talk now Justine completely healed from Osteoporosis, her charming smile and tender heart to people around her justifies how grateful she is and how proud she is to be part of DBCMI.  Justine is now enjoying her studies in a beautiful Catholic school surrounded by her friends.
