Women Empowerment Program

In a bid to transform the lives of single mothers, widows and elderly, DBCMI has provided valuable services to the marginalized/vulnerable people. These include training women with entrepreneurship and business skills which involve savings, financial planning, control and management. We further ensure that some of the women are provided with start-up kit/capital to set up small businesses that normally support them in meeting various needs and supporting the family.

These women normally live in peri-urban and slum areas where borrowing requirements are high and costs of living slightly high which makes it hard to meet the basic needs. As a result, there’s still very large gap between the rich and the poor in meeting the services and basic needs.

The goal of enhancing vulnerable women’s capacity to build their assets through saving rather than increase their risks exposure to taking a loan has created a need to provide alternative means. We believe that if women are empowered have the potential to reach and serve large numbers as they can set up small enterprises that not only enable them access basic needs and services, but also their family members.

The organization through friends of women and children managed to raise some funds that supported over 450 women to set up and boost their businesses. However, due to inadequate funding in the organization, we were unable to serve all the women identified in different communities where we operate especially the elderly groups.
